BACKGROUND: Scedosporium apiospermum (S. apiospermum) is a rare fungal pathogen that causes disseminated infections. It rarely affects immunocompetent individuals and has a poor prognosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old woman presented with multiple lesions in the lungs, brain, and eyes, shortly after near drowning in a car accident. The primary symptoms were chest tightness, limb weakness, headache, and poor vision in the left eye. S. apiospermum infection was confirmed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of intracranial abscess drainage fluid, although intracranial metastases were initially considered. After systemic treatment with voriconazole, her symptoms improved significantly; however, she lost vision in her left eye due to delayed diagnosis. CONCLUSION: While S. apiospermum infection is rare, it should be considered even in immunocompetent patients. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential. Voriconazole may be an effective treatment option.

Scedosporium/Lomentospora is an opportunistic fungal pathogen found worldwide. While Scedosporium apiospermum and Scedosporium boydii are commonly observed globally, Lomentospora prolificans, which mainly affects immunosuppressed individuals, is rarely encountered and is more prevalent in arid climates, particularly in Australia and Spain. L.prolificans is a fungus commonly found in environmental sources such as contaminated water and soil. This species is known as an opportunistic pathogen that can cause deep-seated fungal infections, especially in immunosuppressed individuals. In this case report, a fatal case of L.prolificans fungemia in a patient with T-cell large granular leukemia during profound neutropenia was presented. The patient admitted to the hospital with prolonged fever, neutropenia, and shortness of breath. Antibiotherapy was administered to the patient for febrile neutropenia, but the fever persisted and his clinical status rapidly deteriorated. L.prolificans was isolated from the blood culture, and considering its antifungal resistance, combination therapy of voriconazole and terbinafine was initiated. However, the patient died of septic shock and multiple organ failure. In conclusion, although L.prolificans infections are rare, they can be life-threatening, especially in immunosuppressed individuals. Diagnosis and treatment of such infections may be difficult, therefore rapid diagnostic methods and appropriate treatment protocols should be developed. Consideration of infections caused by rare fungal pathogens in patients with risk factors may be critical for patient care. The literature review revealed that the first case of L.prolificans fungemia from Türkiye was reported in 2023. This case presentation represents the second reported case. However, in our case, L.prolificans fungemia occurred in 2018, it can be considered that L.prolificans may have been an invasive fungal pathogen of significant concern in Türkiye much earlier than previously documented.

BACKGROUND: Scedosporium apiospermum (S. apiospermum) belongs to the asexual form of Pseudallescheria boydii and is widely distributed in various environments. S. apiospermum is the most common cause of pulmonary infection; however, invasive diseases are usually limited to patients with immunodeficiency. CASE PRESENTATION: A 54-year-old Chinese non-smoker female patient with normal lung structure and function was diagnosed with pulmonary S. apiospermum infection by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). The patient was admitted to the hospital after experiencing intermittent right chest pain for 8 months. Chest computed tomography revealed a thick-walled cavity in the upper lobe of the right lung with mild soft tissue enhancement. S. apiospermum was detected by the mNGS of BALF, and DNA sequencing reads were 426. Following treatment with voriconazole (300 mg q12h d1; 200 mg q12h d2-d20), there was no improvement in chest imaging, and a thoracoscopic right upper lobectomy was performed. Postoperative pathological results observed silver staining and PAS-positive oval spores in the alveolar septum, bronchiolar wall, and alveolar cavity, and fungal infection was considered. The patient's symptoms improved; the patient continued voriconazole for 2 months after surgery. No signs of radiological progression or recurrence were observed at the 10-month postoperative follow-up. CONCLUSION: This case report indicates that S. apiospermum infection can occur in immunocompetent individuals and that the mNGS of BALF can assist in its diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, the combined therapy of antifungal drugs and surgery exhibits a potent effect on the disease.

Intertidal mudflats are susceptible to oil pollution due to their proximity to discharges from industries, accidental spills from marine shipping activities, oil drilling, pipeline seepages, and river outflows. The experimental study was divided into two periods. In the first period, microcosm trials were carried out to examine the effect of chemically modified biochar on biological hydrocarbon removal from sediments. The modified biochar's surface area increased from 2.544 to 25.378 m2/g, followed by a corresponding increase in the hydrogen-carbon and oxygen-carbon ratio, indicating improved stability and polarity. In the second period, the effect of exogenous fungus - Scedoporium sp. ZYY on the bacterial community structure was examined in relation to total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) removal. The maximum TPH removal efficiency of 82.4% was achieved in treatments with the modified biochar, followed by a corresponding increase in Fluorescein diacetate hydrolysis activity. Furthermore, high-throughput 16S RNA gene sequencing employed to identify changes in the bacterial community of the original sediment and treatments before and after fungal inoculation revealed Proteobacteria as the dominant phylum. In addition, it was observed that Scedoporium sp. ZYY promoted the proliferation of specific TPH-degraders, particularly, Hyphomonas adhaerens which accounted for 77% of the total degrading populations in treatments where TPH removal was highest. Findings in this study provide valuable insights into the effect of modified biochar and the fundamental role of exogenous fungus towards the effective degradation of oil-contaminated intertidal mudflat sediments.

The purpose is to assess the efficacy of rose bengal photodynamic antimicrobial therapy (PDAT) using different irradiation energy levels and photosensitizer concentrations for the inhibition of fungal keratitis isolates. Seven different fungi (Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium keratoplasticum, Fusarium solani, Paecilomyces variotii, and Pseudallescheria boydii) were isolated from patients with confirmed infectious keratitis. Experiments were performed in triplicate with suspensions of each fungus exposed to different PDAT parameters including a control, green light exposure of 5.4 J/cm2, 2.7 J/cm2 (continuous and pulsed), and 1.8 J/cm2 and rose bengal concentrations of 0.1%, 0.05%, and 0.01%. Plates were photographed 72 h after experimentation, and analysis was performed to assess fungal growth inhibition. PDAT using 5.4 J/cm2 of irradiation and 0.1% rose bengal completely inhibited growth of five of the seven fungal species. Candida albicans and Fusarium keratoplasticum were the most susceptible organisms, with growth inhibited with the lowest fluence and minimum rose bengal concentration. Fusarium solani, Pseudallescheria boydii, and Paecilomyces variotii were inhibited by lower light exposures and photosensitizer concentrations. Aspergillus fumigatus and Curvularia lunata were not inhibited by any PDAT parameters tested. Continuous and pulsed irradiation using 2.7 J/cm2 produced similar results. Rose bengal PDAT successfully inhibits the in vitro growth of five fungi known to cause infectious keratitis. Differences in growth inhibition of the various fungi to multiple PDAT parameters suggest that susceptibilities to PDAT are unique among fungal species. These findings support modifying PDAT parameters based on the infectious etiology.

Scedosporium/Lomentospora species exist as saprophytic moulds that can potentially lead to serious infections in patients who have experienced near-drowning incidents. Scedosporium species are distributed across different regions of the world while Lomentospora prolificans has quite a restricted geographic distribution. We aimed to systematically review scedosporiosis cases after near-drowning, their clinical manifestations, underlying diseases, treatments, outcomes and its impact through disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Five available sources were searched from 1 January 2007, to 20 April 2022. Thirty-eight studies, including 41 patients, were evaluated. Mean age was 33.6 ± 18.6 years (range 1-68), and 28 were male (68.3%). Central nervous system (CNS) dissemination predominated (36/41; 87.8%), presenting mainly as multiple brain abscesses (26/41; 63.4%), followed by lung involvement (22/41; 56.4%). Scedosporium apiospermum species complex was the most causative agent (38/41; 92.7%). Overall mortality was 51.2%. Half of the patients (18/37) were cured after receiving proper treatment, and in most cases, voriconazole alone or in combination with surgery or other antifungals caused survival. The mean survival time was 123 ± 27 days. Mean DALYs in 1980-2022 were 46.110 ± 3.318 (39.607-52.612). Time to diagnosis was estimated to be 120 days, and there was no association between time to diagnosis and outcome. Voriconazole is a potentially effective therapy, and combination of surgery and antifungal treatment may lead to more favourable outcome. Advances in early diagnosis and appropriate antifungal therapy may have contributed to reducing its mortality.

BACKGROUND: Little is known about the short- and long-term healthcare costs of invasive Scedosporium/Lomentospora prolificans infections, particularly in patient groups without haematological malignancy. This study investigated excess index hospitalization costs and cumulative costs of these infections. The predictors of excess cost and length of stay (LOS) of index hospitalization were determined. These estimates serve as valuable inputs for cost-effectiveness models of novel antifungal agents. METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was conducted at six Australian hospitals. Cases of proven/probable invasive Scedosporium/L. prolificans infections between 2011 and 2021 (n = 34) were matched with controls (n = 66) by predefined criteria. Cost data were retrieved from activity-based costing systems and analysis was performed from the Australian public hospital perspective. All costs were presented in 2022 Australian dollars (AUD). Median regression analysis was used to adjust excess costs of index hospitalization whereas cumulative costs up to 1.5 years follow-up were estimated using interval-partitioned survival probabilities. RESULTS: Invasive Scedosporium/L. prolificans infections were independently associated with an adjusted median excess cost of AUD36 422 (P = 0.003) and LOS of 16.27 days (P < 0.001) during index hospitalization. Inpatient stay was the major cost driver (42.7%), followed by pharmacy cost, of which antifungal agents comprised 23.8% of the total cost. Allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant increased the excess cost (P = 0.013) and prolonged LOS (P < 0.001) whereas inpatient death within ≤28 days reduced both cost (P = 0.001) and LOS (P < 0.001). The median cumulative cost increased substantially to AUD203 292 over 1.5 years in cases with Scedosporium/L. prolificans infections. CONCLUSIONS: The economic burden associated with invasive Scedosporium/L. prolificans infections is substantial.

The authors describe a case of nylon foil implant infection caused by Fusarium brachygibbosum , and Lomentospora prolificans following medial orbital wall fracture repair in the setting of postoperative nasal methamphetamine use. A 61-year-old male presented with OS pain and swelling after a physical assault on his face. A CT of maxillofacial bones without contrast showed a moderately comminuted fracture of the medial wall of the left orbit with depression of fracture fragments into the left ethmoid air cells. Six days after repair of the medial wall fracture, the patient returned with a new onset headache, OS pain, and swelling to the left medial canthal area. He reported snorting methamphetamine approximately 48 hours before his current presentation. CT imaging showed fat stranding and soft tissue density in the extraconal space adjacent to the left medial rectus muscle and chronic fracture deformity of lamina papyracea with approximately 4 mm of medial displacement of the fracture fragments. The patient showed little clinical improvement after 48 hours of intravenous antibiotics, which led to the removal of the nylon foil implant by a left orbitotomy. Intraoperative tissue cultures grew coagulase-negative Staphylococcus , F. brachygibbosum , and Lomentospora (Scedosporium) prolificans . The patient was subsequently transitioned to oral clindamycin 600 mg three times daily and voriconazole 200 mg two times daily. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first case report to document an association between snorted methamphetamine and a fungal infection of an orbital implant.

Fungal infections caused by Scedosporium species are rising among immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients. Within the immunocompetent group, patients with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) are at high risk of developing a chronic airway colonization by these molds. While S. apiospermum is one of the major species encountered in the lungs of pwCF, S. dehoogii has rarely been reported. The innate immune response is believed to be critical for host defense against fungal infections. However, its role has only recently been elucidated and the immune mechanisms against Scedosporium species are currently unknown. In this context, we undertook a comparative investigation of macrophage-mediated immune responses toward S. apiospermum and S. dehoogii conidia. Our data showed that S. apiospermum and S. dehoogii conidia strongly stimulated the expression of a set of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines such as IL-1ß, IL-8, IL-6 and TNFα. We demonstrated that S. dehoogii was more potent in stimulating the early release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines while S. apiospermum induced a late inflammatory response at a higher level. Flow cytometry analysis showed that M1-like macrophages were able to internalize both S. apiospermum and S. dehoogii conidia, with a similar intracellular killing rate for both species. In conclusion, these results suggest that M1-like macrophages can rapidly initiate a strong immune response against both S. apiospermum and S. dehoogii. This response is characterized by a similar killing of internalized conidia, but a different time course of cytokine production.

Scedosporium and Lomentospora species are environmental moulds that are virulent in immunocompromised hosts and rarely cause bloodstream infection (BSI). Patients with Scedosporium and Lomentospora species BSI were identified by the state public laboratory service in Queensland, Australia, over a 20-year period. Twenty-two incident episodes occurred among 21 residents; one patient had a second episode 321 days following the first. Of these, 18 were Lomentospora prolificans, three were Scedosporium apiospermum complex and one was a nonspeciated Scedosporium species. Seventeen (81%) patients died during their index admission, and all-cause mortality at 30, 90 and 365 days was 73%, 82% and 91% respectively. All 20 patients with haematological malignancy died within 365 days of follow-up with a median time to death of 9 days (interquartile range, 6-20 days) following diagnoses of BSI.

Lomentospora prolificans is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause invasive lomentosporiosis in immunocompromised patients. Patients with hematological malignancies and those who have undergone stem cell or solid organ transplantations are in the highest risk group. In addition to the limitations and delays in diagnostic possibilities, L. prolificans has a high mortality due to its resistance to all available antifungal drugs. In a patient diagnosed with aplastic anemia, we described the first case of L. prolificans in Türkiye. L. prolificans was identified in the blood culture, and despite the initiation of antifungal treatments, the fungemia resulted in mortality on the 7th day of intensive care hospitalization. This case highlights the importance of early recognition and prompt initiation of appropriate antifungal therapy to improve the outcome of patients with rare mold infections.

In cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, fungal colonization of the respiratory tract is frequently found. Aspergillus fumigatus, Scedosporium genus, and Exophiala dermatitidis are the most commonly isolated moulds from the respiratory tract secretions of CF patients. The aim of this 5-year surveillance study was to identify trends in species distribution and susceptibility patterns of 212 mould strains identified as Aspergillus spp., Scedosporium spp., and Exophiala spp., isolated from sputum of 63 CF patients who received long-term therapy with itraconazole (ITR) and/or voriconazole (VRC). The Aspergillus isolates were identified as members of the sections Fumigati (n = 130), Flavi (n = 22), Terrei (n = 20), Nigri (n = 8), Nidulantes (n = 1), and Usti (n = 1). Among the 16 species of the genus Scedosporium, 9 were S. apiospermum, 3 S. aurantiacum, and 4 S. boydii. Among the 14 Exophiala species, all were molecularly identified as E. dermatitidis. Overall, 94% (15/16) of Scedosporium spp., 50% (7/14) of E. dermatitidis, and 7.7% (14/182) of Aspergillus spp. strains showed high MIC values (≥8 µg/ml) for at least one antifungal. Particularly, 8.9% (19/212) of isolates showed high MIC values for amphotericin B, 11.7% (25/212) for ITR, 4.2% (9/212) for VRC, and 3.3% (7/212) for posaconazole. In some cases, such as some A. fumigatus and E. dermatitidis isolates recovered from the same patient, susceptibility to antifungal azoles decreased over time. We show that the use of azoles for a long time in CF patients causes the selection/isolation of mould strains with higher MIC values.

The widespread exploration and exploitation of crude oil has increased the prevalence of petroleum hydrocarbon pollution in the marine and coastal environment. Bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons using cell immobilization techniques is gaining increasing attention. In this study, the crude oil degradation performance of bacterial and fungal co-culture was optimized by entrapping both cells in sodium-alginate and polyvinyl alcohol composite beads. Results indicate that fungal cells remained active after entrapment and throughout the experiment, while bacterial cells were non-viable at the end of the experimental period in treatments with the bacterial-fungal ratio of 1:2. A remarkable decrease in surface tension from 72 mN/m to 36.51 mN/m was achieved in treatments with the bacterial-fungal ratio of 3:1. This resulted in a significant (P < 0.05) total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) removal rate of 89.4%, and the highest degradation of n-alkanes fractions (from 2129.01 mg/L to 118.53 mg/L), compared to the other treatments. Whereas PAHs removal was highest in treatments with the most fungal abundance (from 980.96 µg/L to 177.3 µg/L). Furthermore, enzymes analysis test revealed that catalase had the most effect on microbial degradation of the target substrate, while protease had no significant impact on the degradation process. High expression of almA and PAH-RHDa genes was achieved in the co-culture treatments, which correlated significantly (P < 0.05) with n-alkanes and PAHs removal, respectively. These results indicate that the application of immobilized bacterial and fungal cells in defined co-culture systems is an effective strategy for enhanced biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in aqueous systems.

BACKGROUND: Fungal infections, other than candidiasis and aspergillosis, are an uncommon entity. Despite this, emerging pathogens are a growing threat. In the following case report, we present the case of an immunocompromised patient suffering from two serious opportunistic infections in the same episode: the first of these, Nocardia multilobar pneumonia; and the second, skin infection by Scedosporium apiospermum. These required prolonged antibacterial and antifungal treatment. CASE PRESENTATION: This case is a 71-year-old oncological patient admitted for recurrent pneumonias that was diagnosed for Nocardia pulmonary infection. Nervous system involvement was discarded and cotrimoxazole was started. Haemorrhagic skin ulcers in the lower limbs appeared after two weeks of hospital admission. We collected samples which were positive for Scedosporium apiospermum and we added voriconazole to the treatment. As a local complication, the patient presented a deep bruise that needed debridement. We completed 4 weeks of intravenous treatment with slow improvement and continued with oral treatment until the disappearance of the lesions occurs. CONCLUSIONS: Opportunistic infections are a rising entity as the number of immunocompromised patients is growing due to more use of immunosuppressive therapies and transplants. Clinicians must have a high suspicion to diagnose and treat them. A fluid collaboration with Microbiology is necessary as antimicrobial resistance is frequent.

Scedosporium apiospermum is a widespread, emerging, and multidrug-resistant filamentous fungus that can cause localized and disseminated infections. The initial step in the infection process involves the adhesion of the fungus to host cells and/or extracellular matrix components. However, the mechanisms of adhesion involving surface molecules in S. apiospermum are not well understood. Previous studies have suggested that the binding of fungal receptors to fibronectin enhances its ability to attach to and infect host cells. The present study investigated the effects of fibronectin on adhesion events of S. apiospermum. The results revealed that conidial cells were able to bind to both immobilized and soluble human fibronectin in a typically dose-dependent manner. Moreover, fibronectin binding was virtually abolished in trypsin-treated conidia, suggesting the proteinaceous nature of the binding site. Western blotting assay, using fibronectin and anti-fibronectin antibody, evidenced 7 polypeptides with molecular masses ranging from 55 to 17 kDa in both conidial and mycelial extracts. Fibronectin-binding molecules were localized by immunofluorescence and immunocytochemistry microscopies at the cell wall and in intracellular compartments of S. apiospermum cells. Furthermore, a possible function for the fibronectin-like molecules of S. apiospermum in the interaction with host lung cells was assessed. Conidia pre-treated with soluble fibronectin showed a significant reduction in adhesion to either epithelial or fibroblast lung cells in a classically dose-dependent manner. Similarly, the pre-treatment of the lung cells with anti-fibronectin antibodies considerably diminished the adhesion. Collectively, the results demonstrated the presence of fibronectin-binding molecules in S. apiospermum cells and their role in adhesive events.

Scedosporium and Lomentospora species rank second among the filamentous fungi colonizing the airways of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. These fungi could be responsible for allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis (ABPM) and bronchitis before lung transplantation and invasive infections after. However, their role in CF lung disease is debated. This study aimed to identify clinical or environmental factors associated with an airway colonization by Scedosporium/Lomentospora species in patients with CF over a period of 7 years. A longitudinal cohort study was conducted from 2008 to 2014 in the CF reference centre in Lyon, France, to compare the characteristics of patients with Scedosporium/Lomentospora colonized and non-colonized patients. During the study period, 283 patients completed the clinical and microbiological follow-up. The analysis revealed that a higher number and duration of hospitalizations, an increased number of courses of parenteral antibiotic therapy, a history of ABPA, and treatment by itraconazole were significantly associated with an airway colonization by Scedosporium/Lomentospora species. The rate of decline of forced expiratory volume in the first second was not statistically different between colonized and non-colonized patients. This study provides evidence that patients colonized by Scedosporium/Lomentospora species require more medical care than non-colonized patients. Additional care could be in part explained by the management of Scedosporium/Lomentospora-related diseases such as ABPM or bronchitis. However, we did not demonstrate a faster rate of decline of respiratory function or body mass index in colonized patients, suggesting, as previously reported, that colonization of the airways by these fungi does not play a significant role in the progression of CF disease.

Lomentospora prolificans is a pathogenic and multidrug-resistant fungus that can infect both immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients, with mortality rates up to 87%. The World Health Organization (WHO) included this fungal species in its first list of 19 priority fungal pathogens, which focused on fungal pathogens that can cause invasive acute and subacute systemic fungal infections. Therefore, there is a growing interest in finding new therapeutic alternatives. In this work, the synthesis of twelve α-aminophosphonates by the microwave-assisted Kabachnik-Fields reaction and twelve α-aminophosphonic acids by a monohydrolysis reaction is reported. All compounds were evaluated by the agar diffusion method as a preliminary screening in comparison with voriconazole, showing inhibition halos for compounds 7, 11, 13, 22 and 27. The five active compounds in the preliminary tests were evaluated against five strains of L. prolificans following protocol M38-A2 from CLSI. The results showed that these compounds exhibit antifungal activity in the concentration range of 900->900 µg/mL. Cytotoxicity against healthy COS-7 cells was also evaluated by the MTT assay, and it was shown that compound 22 was the least cytotoxic, with a viability of 67.91%, comparable to the viability exhibited by voriconazole (68.55%). Docking studies showed that the possible mechanism of action of the active compounds could be through the inhibition of the enzyme lanosterol-14-alpha-demethylase in an allosteric hydrophobic cavity.

BACKGROUND: Scedosporium is a lesser-known non-Aspergillus genus of mold that can present in unsuspecting ways. If overlooked, it may disseminate and cause high mortality in high-risk allogeneic stem cell transplant recipients. CASE PRESENTATION: This case report describes a 65-year-old patient with Acute Myeloid Leukemia who underwent an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant after a period of prolonged neutropenia with fluconazole prophylaxis. She suffered severe debility with altered mentation from a S. apiospermum infection which likely disseminated from a toe wound to the lung and central nervous system. She was successfully treated with liposomal amphotericin B and voriconazole, but faced a prolonged recovery from physical and neurologic sequela. CONCLUSIONS: The case highlights the importance of adequate anti-mold prophylaxis in high-risk patients, and the value of a thorough physical examination in this patient population, with particular attention to skin and soft tissue findings.

Little is known about localized osteoarticular Scedosporiosis (LOS). Most data come from case reports and small case series. Here we present an ancillary study of the nationwide French Scedosporiosis Observational Study (SOS), describing 15 consecutive cases of LOS diagnosed between January 2005 and March 2017. Adult patients diagnosed with LOS defined by osteoarticular involvement without distant foci reported in SOS were included. Fifteen LOS were analyzed. Seven patients had underlying disease. Fourteen patients had prior trauma as potential inoculation. Clinical presentation was arthritis (n = 8), osteitis (n = 5), and thoracic wall infection (n = 2). The most common clinical manifestation was pain (n = 9), followed by localized swelling (n = 7), cutaneous fistulization (n = 7), and fever (n = 5). The species involved were Scedosporium apiospermum (n = 8), S. boydii (n = 3), S. dehoogii (n = 1), and Lomentospora prolificans (n = 3). The species distribution was unremarkable except for S. boydii, which was associated with healthcare-related inoculations. Management was based on medical and surgical treatment for 13 patients. Fourteen patients received antifungal treatment for a median duration of 7 months. No patients died during follow-up. LOS exclusively occurred in the context of inoculation or systemic predisposing factors. It has a non-specific clinical presentation and is associated with an overall good clinical outcome, provided there is a prolonged course of antifungal therapy and adequate surgical management.


Localized osteoarticular scedosporiosis mostly occurs following direct inoculation. Management was most often based on voriconazole therapy and concomitant surgery. Unlike other invasive scedosporiosis, no patient died during follow-up.
